A reunion vet neglects the vegans (11/19/02)

From Ed Bol, '81 (QAHSAA Board Member)

Your sample reunion was cool, although it takes a lot of planning and if
[a professional service] does it the cosat would be outrageous. If we could get committees to plan their own reunions [instead of using a professional service], we could be a much better resource to them. However, there are a lot of people out there who just don't want to deal with it whether it be a time factor or just not willing to make the investment. I am just speaking from my own experience, having planned both my 10- and 20-year reunions and 5 alumni luncheons.

On your sample weekend you write "over 4 days." I only see 3. Personally, I like having a lot of options open to the grads. Although. I don't think I would ever pack a weekend so tightly. Not only is there a cost to everything, people who are coming from out of town usually have other stuff they want to do on the Saturday morning/afternoon. At least that was the case for my class. A good portion of them thought that 3 events was too much. The next time I do it, I will have the casual event at some restauans where people can show up if they want, eat what they want, and drink what they want, and they pay as they play. Then I will have the Sunday afternood picnic at the park. I might change my mind as the time appraoches but that's what I am thinking for now.

You would be surprised about what people complain about. I had complaints that the food was not 50% vegan. I had complaints that there was alcohol available, and the cost was too much (and it was only $40 for all three events). I don't know if you have planned a reunion or that type of function. You might know of what I speak.
