Craig Fox volunteered for the Army as the quickest way to get into flying, according to his widow, Beverly Davis Allen, '68, of Arlington, WA. He had earned his private pilot's license in his early teens and wanted to be a commercial airlines pilot. "For fun we used to just hang out at the airport and watch planes come and go," wrote Beverly. In the Army, Craig won several Purple Hearts, two Distinguished Flying Crosses and the Air Medal. "He was the most proud of his Flying Crosses because they were awarded for flying, not for killing or being hurt."

Craig grew up in Kent and transferred from Kent Meridian High to Queen Anne upon moving to Seattle in 1967. He did not pose for a Senior photo because, said Beverly, he was a very private person.

Craig was on the ski patrol at Alpental and also played on a tennis team. He and Beverly were married on April 19, 1969. He left for Vietnam in July, 1969, and was killed the following May.
